FAQ's

Q: Do I need a referral to see the doctor?
A: Your insurance company may require that you obtain a referral from your primary doctor, but if no referral is necessary, you may see Dr. McBride without going through your primary physician’s office.

Q: What should I expect during the first visit?
A: We ask that you bring your photo ID, insurance card(s), and referral, if necessary, along with any patient information sheets we may have mailed you prior to your visit.  Please be advised that any co-pays or deductibles will be collected at the time of your visit.  During your visit, Dr. McBride will discuss any treatments or procedures with you.  You will then have the option to schedule your procedure, or follow-up appointment at that time.

Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment or procedure?
A: We ask that you give us 24 hours' notice before canceling an office visit, and 72 hours' notice before canceling a procedure.  Repeated cancellations may result in termination of medical services through our office.

Q: How will I find out about test results?
A: Dr. McBride will discuss your results with you at the time of your procedure, or office visit. Depending on your preference, you may also call the office for non-urgent test results.  Dr. McBride, or appointed staff, will return your call in the late afternoon or evening.  We also offer email communication for established patients with Dr. McBride at CharlesMcBrideMD@gmail.com, designed for basic questions, offered via a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted format.

Q: Where do you perform endoscopic procedures?
A:  We perform most of our procedures at the Inova Surgery Center, located at the Springfield HealthPlex.  This facility, owned and managed in a joint partnership with Inova and the physicians who practice there, is located at 6355 Walker Lane, Alexandria, VA  22310.  In certain cases, procedures may also be performed at Fairfax Hospital or Fair Oaks Hospital in their outpatient facilities, or as an inpatient procedure.

Q: Which hospitals are you affiliated with?
A:  We are affiliated with Inova Fairfax and Inova Fair Oaks hospitals.

Q: How do I get my medications refilled?
A:  We will try to refill your medications at the time of your appointment or procedure.  You may also call our office, and have your prescription mailed to you.  It may also be refilled electronically at the pharmacy of your choice, including mail order pharmacies.  If you have not been seen for more than 2 years, we will refill your prescription for a 2-month period, but request that you make an office visit to reassess your status and need for continued medication.
